Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i had a blood patch done yesterday due to a leak from a mylogram of lumbar. My headache has mostly gone away, but I have severe sharp pain in my lower back. I rested last night and woke about 3 this morning with piercing pain. I took it easy today, but it has gotten worse. I can t bend down without keeling over in pain. I called a radiologist that is on call and they told me to go to the er. But what they do for me? is this normal?
It is possible that the blood patch may have been displaced and may be impinging a nerve root. You should definitely go to the er where in all probability they will administer some strong painkillers for the pain. They may also go for a local anaesthetic agent directly at the sight of impingement after taking an xray/mri. You may also be told to sit and sleep in a specific posture till the blood patch settles
